Jaecoo offers pet owners the J5 EV, complete with crate and accessories
Earlier in the week, Jaecoo, a sub-brand of Chinese auto giant Chery, revealed the specifications of its upcoming adventure-oriented and pet-friendly J5 EV, and it seems to be firmly aimed at attracting the EV market for pet owners.
The company has launched a pet and people merchandise page on its website and the prices that owners can expect from the car once it lands in the coming months, including pet carriers and microphones for people doing karaoke.
A “Jaecoo J5 Merchandise” page has been launched on the company’s Australian website, featuring 9 products that the company aims to offer to adventure EV customers.
There are eight accessories available for pets, from a $30 pet bowl to underwater pet carriers costing $155 including GST.
Pet accessories for J5:
- Pet bowl $30
- Collapsible Pet Crate $95
- Submarine pet carrier $155
- Cat scratcher $45
- Pet collar $30
- Pull lead $55
- Pet barrier in trunk $110
- Trunk mat $85
Some of these accessories may require dealer installation, and installation costs will vary depending on the item installed in the J5 EV and whether the dealer does the installation.
For people, there’s a karaoke set with two microphones that pairs with the car for $165.
The rugged-looking J5 EV will arrive in dealerships next month and will come in a single variant.
The J5 is powered by a front-mounted 155 kW engine that produces 288 Nm of torque. It helps accelerate the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, which is quite decent for a mid-size electric SUV.

In terms of range, the new model will deliver up to 402km of WLTP range and can be charged using a DC charger, with a 30-80% charge in around 28 minutes. This is thanks to the 58.9 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) is also on offer to power electrical equipment when needed on an adventure or at home in the event of a power outage.
Inside is a 13.2-inch vertical screen that controls things like the climate control, digital radio and vehicle settings.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard for those who want to connect their phones and use their phone’s apps inside.
The new J5 comes standard with several safety features, including seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), emergency lane keeping (ELK), adaptive cruise control (ACC) and forward collision warning (FCW).

It also features a pet-friendly synthetic leather that is made from a special silicone-based material. This makes the car seats anti-bacterial and wear-resistant, as well as easier to clean.
Jaeoo J5 EV will also come with a very progressive 8-year unlimited mileage warranty, 8-year capped service cost and 8-year unlimited mileage battery warranty.
Pricing is expected to be announced later this month, with initial drive test reviews yet to come. WI look forward to sharing what it’s like in this very competitive part of the market.
