Ford says the towing is ‘meaningful less’ important for your picking up $ 30,000

  • Ford bet that availability will be the best feature to provide its EV 30,000 sensor.
  • The automaker knows that buyers will probably never use a truck for pulling or transport, so it built it for something completely.
  • This is a secret sauce for building an affordable EV: return to the foundations.

A new available electrical pickup of Ford could have a massive battery. But then it would not be possible to appreciate $ 30,000. It could have been a supercross between Ford Maverick and electrification, but then it would be the goal of the right buyer. Instead, Ford did homework and made a ton of effort to see who the hell really wants cheap EV and Pickup.

It turns out that the ideal Buyer Ford is not someone who now wants trucks for trucks. In fact, this buyer can never very well close a trailer or fill with a beed mulch run. If you read it and question the whole point to make an affordable EV -picking up, then I have some bad news for you: you are not for whom this car is intended for.

The development head of Ford’s affordable EV SkunkWorks program Alan Clarke has recently sat down with Insideevs to talk about Ford’s upcoming available available collection.

“The towing for large trucks is very, very important. The towing for small trucks is significantly important,” Clarke said. Later he continued to justify the point: “Less than 25% of Maverick owners have time in life.”

Clarke compared the purchase of a truck for towing with a small family with two children who bought a seven -seater three -row SUV. Do they need three lines? Is not necessary. In fact, studies show that the occupancy rate of most of the third row seats is only about 3%.

“People buy all these three have three rows of seats,” says Clarke, adding: “You buy it for the third row seat, but you never use it.”

Its meaning is that many people buy a vehicle that is equipped to master a specific task, but rarely (if at all) uses this particular function. Ford’s vision is to provide a vehicle to a potential customer and allow the vehicle to perform tasks such as towing; However, if the construction of a vehicle to handle the towing disrupted the intervention of the basic product, such as availability, then its purpose was already at risk. This is where it balances.

“(It’s not like) We are not interested in towing. We want our customers to pull away. We want them to be able. But it’s something that is usually rare,” Clarke explained. “Pull the ship, pull the jet skis, these are the most common. (S) This class of the vehicle, you do not pull the trailer of the fifth round across the country.”

Ford, like many cars, now uses telematics from their connected cars to determine how their customers use their vehicles and use this data to create better vehicles in the future. This means studying how much its customers manage their habits and charging and statistics specific to the vehicle. The data allow them to determine, such as what battery in the truck and how much range it really needs.

Clarke remained firmly fixed with the real technical details of the battery, but thanks to some careful subtraction we were able to estimate that Ford is likely to deliver an unnamed pickup with a spatial 51 kilowatt -hour usable energy. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 RWD has an estimated usable capacity of approximately 60 kWh.

“The range is another seat of the third row,” Clarke said. Explained:

“We look at what we can give to the customer, which is direct costs with ranges, and access to the ranges depends on the speed of charging. Finally, because we will rely on you in lithium-ion phosphate that we will encourage you 100%every time you leave you a house.”

We know that Ford does not expect Maverick buyers to be crossing this new EV. In fact, on the basis of Clarke’s explanation, Ford seems to be expecting this available EV to be a capable vehicle for a lifestyle that can allow you to go to adventure.

“EV buyers in general, many are looking for more usefulness and gifts, they have to look for it anywhere,” Clarke said. “Go for adventure, bring with you the things you want.

Availability quickly becomes the title of EV for cars. Clarke could actually help the buyer and reduce costs at the same time.
